Our History

Making a difference to young lives since 2002

Anchor Foster Care was founded in 2002 by husband and wife team, Florence and Alistair, who are both qualified social workers. They wanted to start a not-for-profit fostering agency which is child-centered and family-focused.

Florence and Alistair are still active Directors and working for Anchor. Their son-in-law Farayi took over as Anchor’s Managing Director from Alistair in 2017, following his previous role as Anchor Finance Director. Farayi has been working with Anchor since 2002, along with our other long-serving staff members.

Florence and Alistair have a passion for providing the right kind of support for foster carers and their families, enabling carers to provide a consistent level of care for children and young people who could not live with their birth parents.

At Anchor, we believe that a secure base is essential for the achievement of good outcomes for children and young people. All our carers are trained in therapeutic approaches to fostering in order to manage difficult behaviours more effectively. This belief is the basis for our mission statement; providing safety, stability and hope, which underpins our service delivery and practice. We work closely with our foster carers, our children and Local Authorities and the rest of the ‘team around the Child’ to achieve this.

2002

Anchor Started

Anchor Foster Care was started in 2002 by husband and wife team, Florence and Alistair.

2005

Kent Office

We moved to our head office to Beresford Road in Gillingham.

2007

Celebrated 5 Years

We celebrated 5 years of Anchor Foster Care at Leeds Castle in Kent.

2011

East Sussex

We started working in East Sussex.

2012

Celebrated 10 Years

We celebrated 10 years of Anchor Foster Care at The Village Hotel in Maidstone.

2013

Derby

We started working in the Midlands area.

2014

North of London

We started working in Luton and the North of London.

South London

We started working in South London.

2017

Celebrated 15 Years

We celebrated 15 years of Anchor Foster Care at the Priestfield Stadium in Gillingham.
