Aims and Objectives

To understand the terminology Domestic Abuse and the different types.
2.
To understand Domestic Abuse legislation in the UK and the child protection aspects.
3.
To understand the effect of a child living in a home with Domestic Abuse.
4.
To understand how exposure to Domestic Abuse affects children at different developmental stages, including sensory overload in children to, “parentified” roles in older children.
5.
To understand how to recognise the “Hidden” signs and indicators of exposure to Domestic Abuse, including regression(bed-wetting),hyper-vigilance (startling easily),”survivor’s guilt,” and a desperate need to control their own environment.
6.
To understand the terminology “Blocked Trust” and Loyalty that considers the complex, conflicting feelings children may have towards the perpetrator.
7.
To understand how to support children who have witnessed Domestic Abuse.
