behavioural conditions associated with repetitive acts of defiance and poor emotional regulation. But while ODD is characterized by hostile behaviour toward authority figures, PDA is primarily driven by anxiety and a need for control. The aim of this training is for participants to recognise and understand the impact of symptoms of ODD and PDA and the use of multiple approaches to reduce conflict/challenging behaviour through changing interactions, altering environments.
By the end of the training learners will:
- be able to work with children to increase their capacity to understand the signs of ODD and PDA behaviour
- be able to support children to recognise, prevent and de-escalate flashpoint situations
- be able to create and use effective coping strategies
- recognise the opportunities and limitations of their own role in dealing with challenging behaviour
