This training session provides foster parents with essential knowledge and practical skills to recognise, understand, and respond to suicide risk in children and young people in their care. Research shows that youth in foster care are significantly more vulnerable to suicidal thoughts and behaviours, being five times more likely to experience suicidal ideation than their peers who are not in care. They are also two and a half times more likely to seriously consider suicide and almost four times more likely to attempt it, largely due to histories of trauma, instability, and loss.
