The Department for Education announced in October 2019 that £19 million will be spent to provide better healthcare, housing and education opportunities for care leavers.

What’s been made available

The outlined support includes:

  • £10 million towards the ‘Staying Put’ scheme, designed to create longer term stability for care leavers
  • £6 million towards support for young people who leave care to live independently
  • £3 million to improve education opportunities for care leavers
  • 1,000 internships for care leavers, including within the Civil Service and other public bodies.
